Every 3rd Thursday, DR and Smiles, Bluz, DJ Skills, and Lonni B. put on for the Queen City with Radio Rehab Charlotte. I’ve been to couple of
these event, but Thursday May 17th (Beats, Rhymes and Life edition) was unlike any prior Radio Rehab Charlotte event. The energy in Neighborhood Theatre was felt throughout the NoDa district. Even as I was walking up to the venue I could tell it was going to be an amazing night.
I strolled in the spot around 11:30pm. So I got there just in time for the main events. DJ Skills and DJ DR were doing damage to their turn tables with that hip hop ‘ish’ that radio wouldn’t dear touch right now (sadly enough). As the DJs were doing their thing, I began to do my networking routine. I bumped into Kawanna Jackson, Davita “Swatty” Galloway, Jocelyn Ellis, Ben and Cedric (Executive Branch, LLC), Cesea (Lady Promoter), ABlack, Ida Divine, and a few other people I can’t even remember right now. I apologize if I didn’t shout you out.
12 midnight comes around and I begin to hear a familiar voice come to the mic. It looks like it was Elevator Jay‘s time to shine. And I mean SHINE! This dude lite up the stage with the rest of the Elevator Music Group crew. Draped in Pryd Clothing and accompanied by the “King of YAK” DJ Dexter Dynamite, this performance set was the best I’ve seen by Elevator Jay so far. But wait, there was more….
SDE representa, Royal-Tee was next. The “Voice of Reason” was supported on stage by J Know Truth, Quill, and a new R&B addition to their team. One thing I got from Royal-Tee’s performance was, PASSION. Dude was speaking from the heart and bleeding his soul into the mic. The speakers just amplified his love for hip hop and his belief that indie artists in Charlotte, NC can unite and build a strong presence in nationwide commercial music.
I say all that to say this…Make sure you go out to the next Radio Rehab Charlotte event. check your local listings
